The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting an active-school-shooter training exercise for local law enforcement on Tuesday, July 8 at Wellington Middle School, 4001 Wilson Avenue in Wellington. The initial exercises begin at 8 a.m. and a final exercise to commence at 3:45 p.m.
These training exercises are focused on providing consistent training, familiarization with smaller agencies in the area, mutual aid and resource mobilization, and to facilitate a smooth, coordinated effort should an active shooter, mass-casualty incident or other critical incident occur in Larimer County. Local agencies participating include the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado State Patrol, Colorado State University Police Department, Timnath Police Department, Colorado Department of Parks and Wildlife and Larimer County Parks Department.
An active school shooter training exercise will also be held at Berthoud High School on June 24.
Although the exercises this year are geared to just law enforcement, local fire personnel and emergency medical services will also be on hand to observe the exercise. Both fire and medical personnel are essential in situations which have mass casualties.
