On June 21, the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office will host an active shooter training exercise at Wellington Middle School located at 4001 Wilson Avenue. The training will start at 8 a.m. and is scheduled to end around 5 p.m. There will be a large number of law enforcement and emergency response vehicles in the area. The exercise will include the use of simulated firearm ammunition and firearm blanks inside and outside of the school.
These exercises are focused on providing consistent training, familiarization with other agencies in the area, mutual aid/resource mobilization, and to facilitate a smooth, coordinated effort should an active shooter or mass casualty incident occur in Larimer County. Personnel from LCSO, Colorado State University Police Department, Timnath Police Department, Larimer County Natural Resources, Colorado State Patrol, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Poudre Fire Authority, and Wellington Fire Protection District will be participating in this training.
Training signs will be posted around the school property to alert residents and visitors to the training. Please avoid the campus until the training exercise is complete and all emergency vehicles have left the area.
