Larimer County residents can master Colorado wildflowers and native landscaping through a course offered through Colorado State University Extension this summer.
Five different sessions of the Native Plant Master course will be presented in May, June and September, each on three consecutive Friday or Saturday mornings in natural areas around the county. The 12 hours of field instruction will cover plant identification, the use of native plants in sustainable landscapes and the impact of noxious weeds.
Participants will also learn scientific names, plant families and use of a botanical key, as well as about invasive non-native species that threaten Colorado’s natural beauty, wildlife and economy.
The course is supported by a unique database of research-based information on more than 1,000 Colorado plants.
Applications for the 2012 Larimer County NPM course are due by March 15; cost for the three-session course is $90.
Anyone interested in the NPM course who has no previous plant identification training is encouraged to take a free class on the subject from the Extension Service on April 28.
For more information, to obtain a course application, or to check out the Plant Database, go to www.colostate.edu/Depts/CoopExt/LARIMER/npm.htm or contact the Extension office at 970-498-6000.
