The Nov. 7 “Border War” will feature one of the oldest rivalries in the country between the University of Wyoming and Colorado State University football teams. On US Highway 287 in Larimer County, Colorado and Albany County, Wyoming, law enforcement agencies will be teaming up as part of a multi-state, multi-agency seat belt, speeding and DUI enforcement operation.
November 7 will be one of the busiest travel days on US Highway 287 as fans drive to Laramie for a 1 p.m. kick off at War Memorial Stadium. US Highway 287 is 65 miles of state highway that connects Ft. Collins and Laramie, Wyoming. Wyoming and Colorado law enforcement will be out in force patrolling US 287 for speeders, drunk drivers and those not buckling up.
According to preliminary data from the Colorado Department of Transportation there have been 27 fatalities on Larimer County roads through October 20 of this year, with six of those fatalities related to alcohol impaired drivers. The CDOT Highway Safety Office provides funding to Colorado law enforcement for impaired driving enforcement, education and awareness campaigns.
Agencies staffing the 35 miles of US 287 in Colorado, include the Larimer County Sheriffs Office, Ft. Collins Police Department, CSU Police Department, Loveland Police Department and Colorado State Patrol. Agencies staffing the 30 miles of US 287 in Wyoming, include the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Laramie Police Department, Albany County Sheriff’s Office, University of Wyoming Police Department, Wyoming State Park Rangers and the Cheyenne Police Department.
