Packs and troops from the Longs Peak Council, Boy Scouts of America will go door to door on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to collect non-perishable food for the Food Bank for Larimer County.
More than 1,000 Scouts will canvas area neighborhoods for the 29th annual “Scouting for Food” drive. Cub Scout packs and Boy Scout troops will distribute bags during the week and will return to collect donated food. The community is encouraged to place their bags of donated food outside by 8 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15.
Last year, scouts collected 8,683 pounds of food. Most-needed food items include peanut butter, canned meat in water and low sugar cereal and pasta/rice. As the holiday season approaches, the Food Bank also requests canned yams or sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, stuffing, beans, corn and pie filling.
While many Scouts will be marching through neighborhoods around Larimer County, others will be volunteering at the 9Cares…Colorado Shares Annual Food and Fund Drive. This year’s 9Cares event will be held outside the King Soopers at 1842 N. College Ave. in Fort Collins and at the King Soopers at 253 E. 29th St. in Loveland from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Community members can donate funds and food to benefit the programs of the Food Bank for Larimer County, including Kids Cafe which provides 1,000 nutritious meals each week to low income children; Food Link which supplies food to nearly 85 nonprofit agencies in Larimer County; and Food Share, a fresh food pantry, serving almost 13,000 people each month.
