The Canyon Lakes Ranger District proposes to cut trees on 54 acres to improve forest health and reduce hazardous fuels in the vicinity of Crystal Lakes and Red Feather Lakes.
These 54 acres of the Manhattan Fuels Reduction Project were previously treated in the Sevenmile Project, but significant mortality has occurred since that project as a result of the mountain pine beetle. These units are adjacent to fuels treatment areas planned as part of the Red Feather Fuels Reduction Project and would likely be implemented in 2015 or 2016. Treatments would be accomplished using mechanical equipment and forest products would be removed where feasible and appropriate.
The Forest Service is soliciting public comments on this proposal. Comments can be e-mailed to [email protected] or mailed to the attention of Nehalem Clark at 2150 Centre Ave, Building E, Fort Collins, CO 80526. To be fully considered in the analysis, comments should be received no later than Jan. 20. This project is being planned under a Categorical Exclusion, which is neither objectionable nor appealable.
