Colorado Parks and Wildlife is seeking comments from the public about management of Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep in northern Larimer County.
The agency is developing a management plan for bighorns in the sheep management units known to hunters as S1, S18, S40, and S58. Agency biologists define the area as Data Analysis Unit RBS-1.
“Colorado Parks and Wildlife is eager to improve and refine management of bighorn sheep herds in northern Larimer County,” said northeast region terrestrial biologist Mark Vieira, “We would like to engage the public about future management and expect this process will help us develop long-term population and sex ratio objectives.”
Herd management plans are created in a three-step process and will dictate the management of a herd for ten years. A draft plan for RBS-1 and an online survey regarding these sheep can be found at:

Management alternatives are included in the draft plan and feedback is requested by March 4. Based on biological data, public and agency feedback, preferred population and sex ratio alternatives will move to the CPW Commission later this spring/summer.
