An enthusiastic group gathered on the sidewalk in the middle of downtown Wellington on Nov. 16 to take part in the launch of Blue Federal Credit Union’s 2016 Do Gooders campaign.
Formerly known as Warren Federal Credit Union, Blue is celebrating its ninth anniversary in Wellington.
The morning was balmy for November and people chatted, drank coffee and enjoyed muffins from Wellington’s Ingrained Bakery.
Standing between “Do Gooders Unite” banners, Michele Bolkovatz, marketing vice president for Blue, explained the program. Partnering with Wellington Main Street Program, Blue has found a way to give back and strengthen ties with the Wellington community.
During the month of December, the first 300 people to open an account at the Fort Collins or Wellington office of Blue will receive a “Do Good” promotional kit and $100 to do good in their community. “The money can be spent anywhere, in any way the recipient chooses, including depositing it in their own account,” Bolkovatz said.
When Blue reaches its goal of 300 new members, the company will donate $10,000 to downtown Wellington and $20,000 to downtown Fort Collins.
“This is a great partnership,” Main Street executive director Dave Michaelson said. “We’re working on a plan to create some unique bicycle racks for downtown using the funds donated by Blue.”
