Fort Collins residents can receive up to $50 in rebates through the 2015 Lawn and Garden Equipment Rebate Program from April 18 through June 28.
Like last year, this year’s rebate program once again includes electric or reel lawn mowers as well as electric or battery-powered leaf blowers, string trimmers, hedge trimmers, edgers, chain saws, pole saws, cultivators, and tillers that have a retail purchase price of $99 or more. For a complete list of participating retailers or to request a rebate, go to fcgov.com/lawnmower or call 970-221-6600.
A $25 rebate will be issued for the purchase of “clean” equipment and another $25 rebate will be issued for recycling a gas-powered lawn mower with the purchase of a manual or electric lawn mower.
Residents can help reduce the emissions of air pollutants by replacing their gas-powered lawn and garden equipment with “clean” equipment, recycling their gas mower, or by using a sustainable lawn care service. Traditional, gas-powered lawn and garden equipment produce volatile organic compounds, nitrogen oxides, and hazardous air pollutants that can harm your health and contribute to ground level ozone, which causes lung damage, smog and haze. In one hour, a gas-powered lawn mower can produce the same amount of air pollution as 11 cars.
Rebates will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis to Fort Collins residents. Equipment must be purchased from participating retailers inside the city.
