Fort Collins announces outdoor water restrictions beginning April 1

Fort Collins City Manager Darin Atteberry signed a declaration March 6 to activate the Water Shortage Response Plan’s Response Level 1 restrictions to begin April 1.

The decision to implement water restrictions was based on the uncertainty of water supplies available to the City of Fort Collins due to fire-related water quality issues and supplies impacted by continued drought conditions and low snowpack.

Response Level 1 restrictions limit lawn watering to two days a week. Other restrictions apply to car washing and using water to spray impervious surfaces. Watering of trees, shrubs, flowers and vegetable gardens is not restricted.

Lawn watering exceptions may be granted through permits. Permits are available through Fort Collins Utilities for new seed and sod, properties larger than 4 acres, medical hardships and religious objections.
