From Friends of the RFL Library President Sandy Lagow: Our annual Friends of RFL Community Library dinner will be Thursday, June 19 at the Western Ridge. Other events coming up are Memorial Day weekend book sale, July 4th weekend book sale, Labor Day book sale (begins Aug. 29), Macy’s Cause-to-Shop fundraiser on Aug. 23, Wild West Relay on Aug. 1, and Fine Arts Gala at the Forks on Thursday, Aug. 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. with bidding closing at 7:30 p.m.

Coming up is the Red Feather 9Health Fair, Saturday, May 3, from 7 to 11 a.m. Pre-register at www.9healthfair.org or on the morning of the Fair in the RFL POA building.
Red Feather Lakes Community Library and The Writer’s Group will co-sponsor “Smart Self-Publishing” June 28 from 1 to 3:30 p.m., conducted by Kerrie Flanagan.
Kerrie is the Director of Northern Colorado Writers, a freelance writer and a writing consultant with more than 14 years experience in the industry. Her recent articles can be found in numerous sources including the “2011 Guide to Literary Agents,” ”Writers Market,” and “Writers Digest Magazine.” Her new book “Write Away; A Year of Musings and Motivations for Writers,” will be released in May.
Currently, authors have many options outside of the traditional publication route: from creating your own publishing company to using companies like Create Space that provide some support to creating your own e-books. “Smart Self-Publishing” will provide the knowledge needed to make an informed decision about self-publishing. On other issues, we’ll be updating our three-year strategic plan over the next several months and your voice — in where the library is going and how we are to get there — is of critical importance, especially in times of lower revenue and funding choices to be made. It’s your library: Your interests count. There are several channels coming to allow you to participate, but we also highly recommend the direct approach at any time on any issue.
