The Canyon Lakes Ranger District of the Roosevelt National Forest is in the initial stage of a decision process to grant available grazing capacity for a partial vacancy of the Sheep Creek C & H Allotment. This allotment is located approximately 8 miles southwest of Tie Siding, Wyo. This area has been grazed for decades.
A vacancy of 26 cow/calf pairs for an annual season of June 21 through Sept. 30 exists. The Sheep Creek Area Grazing Allotment Environmental Assessment, signed in 2005, provides the ability to grant unobligated capacity in a manner that maintains or moves conditions toward Forest Plan objectives. Either existing permit holders or new applicants can be considered.

It is anticipated a tour of the allotment will take place shortly after the September deadline, tentatively scheduled for Sept. 15. Those with interest following the field trip will be asked to submit an application.
Livestock grazing is an important component of the multi-use mandate of the U.S. Forest Service. The Canyon Lakes Ranger District manages 26 active allotments and approximately 2,500 cattle are permitted to graze annually.
