Larimer County recommends securing propane tanks in High Park Fire burn area

Larimer County has verified one and received reports of another residential propane cylinder that washed away in rainfall induced flash floods in the High Park Fire burn area.

One was a 500-gallon tank that moved over 50 yards releasing hazardous propane before coming to a stop.

Residents in and downstream of the High Park Fire burn area are cautioned to securely tie down and protect all propane tanks, even if tanks are located in areas which have not flooded in the past. Post-fire flooding is unpredictable and can be extreme. Leaking propane is extremely hazardous and can cause catastrophic explosions and fires.

If unsure, please contact your local fire department immediately for recommendations on how to secure your tank.
