This is Lia Menaker’s debut album, and she definitely gives us all she has. Her soulful voice mixed
with her conversational vocals is soothing and very accessible. The scatting in “Instinct” is done very
well and not overdone. She has a sound like a classic acoustic singer-songwriter with the added
complexity of her vocal range and the piano. This album is like sitting at home with a nice bottle of
wine next to the fire. The album ranges from sexy and sultry to fun and upbeat. “Animal Behavior”
is the song you would hear in a underground bar in the middle of the city, the singer is sitting in the
dark corner singing her heart out. The music is mysterious-sounding and very sultry. Overall this
album will keep you interested throughout. Each song tells a different story and each story is so
complex.
