Lory State Park is inviting visitors and friends to celebrate the season at the Lory State Park Holiday Open House on Dec. 12. Sponsored by the nonprofit group Friends of Lory, the open house will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Visitor Center and will feature children’s activities, refreshments, prize drawings, and a festive time for visitors of all ages.
Colorado State Parks mascot Talon, the red-tailed hawk, will greet participants and be available for pictures with the youngsters. The Friends of Lory will host a drawing to win a $70 gift voucher for an annual parks pass, good in all 42 state parks in Colorado; as well as other fun prizes.
Activities include creating a winter pinecone feeder treat for the birds and learning about bird habitat and behavior, children’s story time from 10:30 a.m. to 11a.m. and 12:30 p.m.to 1 p.m. and shopping the visitor center with discounts from 10 to 40 percent off on park merchandise like hoodies, hats, books/maps, plush animals and t-shirts.
The open house at the visitor center is free and open to the public; however, a valid annual ($70) or day pass ($7) is required to enter the park.
Lory State Park is located at 708 Lodgepole Drive in Bellvue and is open seven days a week. Visitors are invited to enjoy mountain biking, hiking and horseback riding amid some fabulous foothills scenery just minutes from Fort Collins and adjacent to Horsetooth Reservoir.
