Maxwell Hughes – Only In Dreams

Maxwell-Hughes
4.5 out of 5
Maxwell Hughes’ third full-length album, Only In Dreams, is surrounded by incredibly beautiful and thought-provoking guitar instrumentals. It is a Jack Rose-ian adventure, fit for a soundtrack to the stories of Edward Abbey or traveling, as the cover art suggests, through the desert on a canoe. Only In Dreams exemplifies Maxwell Hughes’ tremendous, self-taught talent on the guitar and an extensive musical charisma. The album seems to look at Maxwell’s former band, the nationally-acclaimed Lumineers, and say “I can do this too.” There is no track that is to be missed on the album, from the intense, intricate “Old Boy” to the dreamy, abstract “Rain Waltz.” To watch Maxwell Hughes play the guitar in person is a fascinating and amazing experience that is not to be missed; catch him at release party for Only In Dreams, supported by Danielle Ate the Sandwich, when Maxwell returns to Everyday Joe’s Coffee House in his hometown of Fort Collins after a string of shows in New York City.
