Maxwell Mud seem to be looking to make an impression. The self-titled debut album begins in a full sprint, with the Black Crowes-esque “Suzie” before heading without pause into the even more electrifying “All You Wanna Do.” The energy is maintained throughout the majority of the album, sometimes breaking down into a slow, seemingly pensive blues (“I’ll Be Around”, “I Just Wanna Be Good”). The Fort Collins-based three-piece outfit is made up of Brian Kittrell (guitar) of Rich With Friends and Kenny Jones (bass) of Blue Grama and Rich With Friends, with Kevin Johnson bringing up the rear as a seasoned drummer/percussionist. Maxwell Mud in its entirety brings with it a sense of fulfillment, in that the sound is rich and the effort put forth in all aspects of the project is evident. Check out the album and be on the watch for Maxwell Mud and some solid local shows this winter.
