A ‘soul connection’ is something without definition; it differs from person to person, transcending artistic boundaries. For locally-based Meadowlark Jivin!, the soul connection is built upon creating relationships through music. Though the group’s third studio album was recorded in Denver and Fort Collins, the stories of Soul Connection span across the continents, from Toulouse, France to Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso to New Orleans, Louisiana, incorporating an equally diverse array of sound. Trumpets, trombones, congas and saxophones contribute to the interweaving of soul, blues, reggae, scat and doo-wop throughout the album. The title track, alongside “Acapella Mojo,” stand out as the highlights of Soul Connection, keying in on interesting and talented vocal harmonization and international influences. Watch out for Meadowlark Jivin! the next time they make their way through the Front Range.
