The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Crime Prevention Unit is looking for participants for this year’s National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 6. The 30th Annual National Night Out is a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office. The cities of Fort Collins and Estes Park are also participating in National Night Out activities.
Each year’s National Night Out campaign involves citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states in addition to U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. It is designed to:
• Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
• Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs
• Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
• Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Neighborhoods can celebrate with block parties, cookouts, visits from the Sheriff’s office, exhibits, flashlight walks, contests or youth programs. These events have proven to be an effective, inexpensive and an enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight for a safer county.
Neighborhoods or groups interested in participating should contact Barbara Bennett, Sheriff’s Auxiliary Unit Coordinator, at 970-682-0597.
For Fort Collins Police, contact Neighborhood Services Manager Beth Sowder at 970-221-6676 or [email protected].
