Vandals caused extensive damage at the Crow Valley campground on the Pawnee National Grassland over the Columbus Day weekend, causing it to close early. The campground is about 35 miles east of Wellington.
Destruction at the site included multiple destroyed signs and kiosks, a torn up water hydrant, debris throughout the area, toilet damage, historic farm equipment damage, a destroyed drinking fountain and other damage.
Due to the degree of damage, the campground is closing Oct. 13 for the rest of the season. It was originally planned to be open until Nov. 1.
The vandalism is under investigation and the Forest Service is seeking the public’s help. If anyone has any information regarding this damage, please contact Lenora Arevalos at 970-222-5241.
