The City of Fort Collins Natural Areas Program will host Boyd Lebeda from the Colorado State Forest Service, who will be giving a special presentation about pine beetles and forest ecology. The event is Tuesday, October 25, 11 a.m.- noon at 215 North Mason, Community Room. There is no charge for the event.
Mountain pine beetles are an insect native to Colorado that develop in pine trees such as lodgepole and ponderosas. Colorado is experiencing an outbreak of pine beetles that has been devastating in some areas. Come learn about the fascinating life cycle of pine beetles, how they fit into the bigger picture, ecological disturbances and their impact on natural areas. You’ll hear about the current outbreak situation and the forecast for the Front Range.
