Poudre School District Board of Education selects Wellington resident for board vacancy

After in-depth discussions and questions at a community meeting on May 6, the Poudre School District Board of Education selected Carolyn Reed to fill the seventh seat on the board representing District E.

Reed’s appointment culminated a two-month process to fill the seat vacated when newly elected board member Nicolas Holian moved out of town. Reed will be sworn in at the regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting on May 13.

Reed, who grew up in Wellington, is a 1978 graduate of Poudre High School. She and her husband have six children who attended PSD schools and currently own and operate six restaurants in Wyoming and Colorado. Previously she worked for the United Parcel Service as a delivery driver for 20 years. While working for UPS, Reed served as a Union Steward and on the Board of Teamsters Local 17. She has been a foster parent, a court-appointed Special Advocate and lived abroad in England from 1980-83.

District E represents the northern parts of the district including Wellington, north Fort Collins, unincorporated areas up to the Wyoming border and the mountain towns of Stove Prairie, Red Feather Lakes and Livermore.

Reed will serve on the board until November 2015 when she will have the option to run in the general election if she wishes to continue as the District E representative.
