The 2013 USA Pro Cycling Challenge will cross the Canyon Lakes Ranger District on August 24. This will cause some temporary closures impacting forest visitors.
Stage six begins at the Larimer County Fairgrounds and will pass through Windsor, Loveland, and Estes Park, past Horsetooth Reservoir, finishing in Old Town Fort Collins.
The Big Thompson Canyon will be impacted for those visiting the forest. Highway 34 in the canyon will be closed from approximately noon until 3 p.m. County Road 43 will have a rolling closure as the peloton moves through the area. This can impact those planning to fish along the Big Thompson or visit any of the trailheads or picnic areas along County Road 43.
Parking along the route is limited. Details for parking and viewing are available at http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/arp/home/?cid=STELPRDB5428896. Park cars in designated parking areas when available. If parking off road, pull over far enough as to not impede the race. There is no camping immediately along the race route.
Details about the day’s events and other closure information can be found at www.nococycling.com. Smokey Bear will be making appearances at both the start and finish. The U.S. Forest Service will also have a booth at the Finish Festival with the help of the Overland Mountain Bike Club – stop by to learn more about the Canyon Lakes Ranger District.
