Welcome to the new year! Like many of you, we are undertaking a number of New Year’s resolutions here at the Red Feather Lakes Community Library to continue to make your visit here useful, comfortable, and fulfilling. We’re offering new services – downloadable audiobooks, great new basic PC tech programs such as Beginning Microsoft Publisher and Casual Excel; a new View-and-Discuss series of monthly classic movies – and, with great fanfare, a new Baby-Time infant program for those not quite meeting the library’s current Preschool Story Time audience.
This, in addition to our already tried-and-true offerings: 12,000 books, DVDs and other materials available for a three-week checkout, 16 available laptop computers for public use – no waiting, ever – outside 24/7 wireless Internet service, mono and color printing, photocopying and fax services, reader’s advisory, reference through local assistance and the statewide AskColorado reference service, interlibrary loan through the Colorado SWIFT system and other neighbor libraries through AspenCat. All of this offered with good service and a smile by professional staff and a crack team of volunteers.
By Creed Kidd, Library Director
Speaking of first-rate volunteers, we have a great team but there’s always room for one more. If you are interested in volunteering a few hours each month in assisting others within the community, we’d like to hear from you: 970-881-2664 or [email protected]. New folks are always needed (and always appreciated) to assist.
Otherwise, we have a fair amount of activity scheduled for January:
* We’ll be hosting another elementary-age children’s event at the library 1-2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 5. Grades K-5th (and parents) welcome.
* Teen Zone, for grades 6 through 12 will be Jan. 14, 4-6 p.m.
* A View-and-Discuss classic movie will be shown and discussed Jan. 20. Contact the library for the title (because we can’t tell you here …)
* We’ve scheduled a Beginning Microsoft Publisher class 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6. Limited to six participants – signup mandatory.
* Ditching Craplets: Removing unwanted programs and trialware from a new PC – Jan. 14, 2011, 1 p..m.
* A signing for “How the West was Drawn” by author Linda Osmundson will be held Jan. 13, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
* Baby-time for the youngest library users – ages 6 through 24 months — begins Thursday, Jan. 19, 10:30am – 10:50am. Contact the library for more information.
* “What Dogs Want: Understand and Train More Effectively,” conducted by Harline Larkey, geared for adults and teens who are dog owners.
Our condolences to the family of Jack Reynolds, long-time proprietor of the Hilltop, area resident, and friend of the library who passed away suddenly Dec. 19. He will be missed.
January’s Ruth’s Gallery Presentation: The Bear Paws Quilter’s Group will be exhibiting samples of always exceptional work: quilts, baby quilts and pillows.
