Red Feather Lakes Community Library – Update for June, 2012

June is membership month for The Red Feather Friends of the Library. For as little as a $10 annual membership, you can join your neighbors in supporting the library — which, of course is here to meet your and the community’s interests and needs.

We recommend also joining the Red Feather Historical Society, a sister organization dedicated to the exploration and preservation of local area history. Contact Pat at [email protected] for more information or visit http://redfeatherhistoricalsociety.org.

You’ll see the annual Red Feather Lakes Community Library / Friends of the Library newsletter in postal boxes soon. We have a great summer events season ahead and the newsletter will give you a day-by-day planning guide to events as well as Friends news and membership information.

An always anticipated early-summer event is the Friends of the Library Annual Dinner Meeting, this year on Thursday, June 21 at 5 p.m. at Western Ridge Restaurant. Cowboy poet, Bill Brewster will provide an entertaining evening. Please see the library newsletter for a reservation form or contact the library at 881-2664 to register for this fun event.

The 4th of July weekend brings — as well as the area’s premier celebratory seasonal event – the second of the three annual Friends of the Library Book Sale, Thursday, July 5 through Saturday, July 7, hours as posted. There are excellent bargains in books and other materials, proceeds going to support your Red Feather Lakes Community Library.

The Library annual summer reading program — for all ages — begins June 2 and is an excellent way to win a T-shirt (and other prizes) as well as catch-up on some likely winter-delayed reading. There are minimums, of course, for age-appropriate reading. However, feel free to read as much as you wish — or, otherwise within your own time and interest frame.

The Library would like to thank the many sponsors of the program both here on the mountain and in the valley that make Red Feather Library Summer Reading possible. There are some great prizes offered. For a complete list of donors, please visit the Library’s website at www.redfeatherlibrary.org.

Remember, new Library hours through the summer: 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, an extra 10 hours open per week for your convenience.

Long-time Red Feather Lakes area resident? We need your help identifying a number of smiling (or otherwise enjoying themselves) individuals photographed at the library or at library events. We’re trying to determine names, events and dates with the intention of documenting Library history as being an important part of local area history.
