Red Feather Lakes Library update

By Creed Kidd
Library Director

Closing the library’s summer reading program Aug. 6, we have a real treat lined up: storyteller Indiana Bones, “Keeper of Legends” (aka Mike McCartney, an Emmy Award winning writer, producer and performing artist) who leads the audience on a journey through time with the use of artifacts, fossils, lively puppets and the crack of his bull whip.

Indiana Bones is in considerable demand and we’re fortunate to have a performer of his caliber come to the library. Reservations are recommended at 970-881-2664. The performance is scheduled for 2 p.m. Aug. 6 at the POA building across from the Red Feather Lakes Library. Wear your Indiana Jones get-up if you dare.

Summer Reading Program logs are due at the library by Aug. 2. In conjunction with Indiana Jones, er, Bones, the library will conduct a grand prize drawing for each reading-program category: pre-school through kindergarten, first- through fifth-graders, teens and adults. You don’t have to be there to win.

Eighteenth-century theologian and New Englander Jonathan Edwards (a.k.a. Jack R. Van Ens) comes to Red Feather Lakes Community Library at 3 p.m. Aug. 12 to speak about “The American Revolution Before 1776 That’s Forgiven.” Those remembering Van Ens’ excellent portrayal last year of Thomas Jefferson will want to be there. Everyone is invited.

Other library activities include a Spinning Yarn spinning wheel and drop spindle demonstration at the library at 1 p.m. Aug. 13, presented by library regular Vivian Gilbert.
The RFL Historical Society and the Red Feather Lakes Community Library are cosponsoring a tour of the logging camps in the National Forests on Aug. 17. Please RSVP by Aug. 12 at 970-881-2664. Members of the Historical Society or participants in the library’s Summer Reading Program (teens and adults) may participate free. There is a nominal charge for others.

Please join the Friends of the Red Feather Lakes Community Library at the summer potluck at 5 p.m. Aug. 18 at the POA building. All friends, volunteers and boards are invited to attend. Please sign up at the library or call the library at 970-881-2664 and let them know the dish you will bring.

Stay tuned for computer and technology classes offered by the library at 1 p.m. Aug. 27 and Aug. 30.
