U.S. Forest Service firefighters plan to take advantage of recent and forecasted snow to burn slash piles on the Canyon Lakes Ranger District starting as soon as Nov. 14 and continuing into the next week as conditions allow. Burning could take place at one or more of these locations:
· Trout Creek, located in northern Larimer County in the Sheep Creek area
· Red Feather 1, located near Manhattan and Red Feather Lakes Roads
· Red Feather 2, located northwest of Red Feather Lakes, Lost Lake area
· Stub Creek, located in the north portion of the Laramie River Valley
Conditions are evaluated each day of the burn to determine if ignition will take place. Wind, fuel moisture, staffing and snow cover all play a factor in where and whether ignition occurs.
