Hurry! There are a few more days left before the Friends of the Library quilt raffle scheduled Sept. 8 at the library. Tickets are still available through Friends Board members and at the library itself at $2 each or six for $10. Given the beauty of the quilt, graciously donated by the Mountain Meadows Quilters, that’s a bargain. Proceeds of the drawing will be used by the Friends to benefit and enhance library programs that directly benefit you. Whether you draw the quilt or not that’s a winning hand.

We’d like to remind you that Larimer County Commissioner Lew Gaiter III’s monthly area meeting, held in the library’s Stenzel Community Room, has moved to the fourth Thursday of the month, In September that’s the 24th. The time remains the same, noon to 1:30 p.m., and remains a great opportunity to meet Gaiter, express your opinion on local issues, and meet occasional County special guests who discuss relevant topics – which recently have included open space and recreation, aging resources and area policing.
Prospective authors are invited to attend the area Writers Group that meets at the library the second and fourth Thursday of the month from 3 to 5 p.m. The group itself consists of several published writers as well as those who simply write for enjoyment. New participants are welcome. Contact the library at 970-881-2664 (or [email protected]) and we’ll put you in touch with the group.
We’re thinking of Halloween. Specifically, we’re looking for volunteers interested in planning, setting up, conducting and taking down the library’s annual Halloween haunted house. Halloween itself may seem relatively far away now but in terms of putting together a good program we’re right on schedule. Interested? Contact Jeanette at 970-881-2664 or [email protected].
Since the first of the year we’ve offered more titles available for download as e-Books or e-audio than we have in print. Given limited library space that proportion is likely to increase though we strongly intend to maintain a fresh, responsive and up-to-date print collection. Have a preference for one format above the other? We expect to meet that interest across varying formats. For example, Harper Lee’s new book “Go Set a Watchman,” new in July, is available in the library in print and on CD. However, through the library copies are available as an e-Book and e-audio. The choice is yours.
While many prefer print, there’s a certain advantage to downloadable titles, especially if one wants a title at 11 p.m. on a Sunday. While the library’s new seven-day-a-week schedule makes it much more convenient to visit the library, sorry, we’re not open at 11 p.m. on Sunday. However, for your convenience we’re open 24/7 online and you’ll be seeing that level of service increase.
