Two-day Larimer, Weld traffic sweep nets 13 fugitives

On May 29 and 30, 36 troopers from the Colorado State Patrol’s Criminal Investigations Branch joined fellow CSP troopers and other law-enforcement agencies for a traffic-safety operation in Larimer and Weld counties. The two-day operation resulted in the arrest of 13 fugitives, a drug seizure, and numerous citations for dangerous driving behaviors.

Troopers located and arrested seven fugitives for outstanding violations including DUI, suspended/revoked licenses, careless driving causing death and obstruction/attempting to influence a public official. An additional six fugitives were arrested as a result of proactive traffic contacts during the two-day span.

K9 troopers conducted multiple vehicle searches as a result of traffic contacts, resulting in the seizure of personal-use cocaine, which carries felony charges. Law-enforcement officers also recovered two stolen license plates.

Troopers contacted 310 motorists for 280 different violations of traffic and/or criminal laws. Dangerous/improper driving behavior accounted for 172 of those contacts. Three drivers were arrested for drug/alcohol violations, and troopers issued 18 citations to drivers with suspended/revoked/invalid driver’s licenses.

Troopers cited 53 drivers while educating 232 motorists through verbal and/or written warnings for less dangerous violations. Troopers also contacted 57 vehicles for potentially dangerous equipment violations and assisted 29 motorists with their disabled vehicles.

Participating law-enforcement agencies included the Colorado State Patrol’s Larimer troop; the Larimer and Weld County Sheriff’s offices; and police departments from Fort Collins, Greeley, Loveland, Longmont, Estes Park, Johnstown and Colorado State University.
