Two Wellington residents apply for vacant seat on PSD Board

From Poudre Schools:

Angela Billington and Carolyn Reed, both Wellington residents, have submitted applications to fill the vacant Director District E seat on the PSD Board of Education. The deadline to apply was April 21.

The District E seat was recently vacated when Nicholas Holian resigned in March. Director District E covers a northeast area within the School District’s boundaries.

Angela Billington is currently the owner of Billington’s Busy Bees Daycare/Preschool in Wellington and is a certified at-home daycare provider. She has 20 years of education experience, teaching in several different grade levels from preschool through adult education, primarily in Texas. Since moving to Colorado in 2006, she taught in Bethoud for a year and then in Loveland for a year.

“Education and volunteerism are important core values for myself and my family. I strive to be a positive role model for my children by showing the benefit of commitment and connectivity to your community and would like to further this positive example by serving on the Board of Education. I believe my experiences, both personally and professionally, will be an asset for your organization,” said Billington in her letter of interest.

She has served on Eyestone Elementary’s SITE/SAC committee for the past seven years. She also serves as a volunteer for Wellington’s Community Activities Committee and the Park and Trails Committee. She has also volunteered for other committees like the Larimer County Boys and Girls Club, PHS International Baccalaureate Parent Advisory Board and PSD Education Advisory Committee.

Carolyn Reed, who grew up in Wellington, is a 1978 graduate of Poudre High School. She and her husband, who have six children who attended PSD schools, currently own and operate six restaurants in Wyoming and Colorado. Previously she worked for the United Parcel Service as a delivery driver for 20 years.

“It is my sincere belief that PSD schools, in partnership with families and community, can make important and meaningful impressions on our children, as they did for me and for my children. I would welcome an opportunity to serve with the current board and I believe I will bring a multifaceted perspective that will be of value to PSD,” said Reed in her letter of interest.

While working for UPS, Reed served as a Union Steward and on the Board of Teamsters Local 17. She has been a foster parent, a court-appointed Special Advocated and lived abroad in England from 1980-83.

Current Board members will select finalists from submitted applications during their regular board meeting, Tuesday, April 22, to interview on May 6.

Community members will have a chance to talk with board members about the vacant seat during a Community Conversation from 7 -7:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 6, at the JSSC, 2407 LaPorte Ave.

Following the Community Conversation, interviews will be conducted from 7:30 to 9 p.m., May 6, at the JSSC.

After the interviews (approximately 9:15 p.m.), the Board will review community input, deliberate and then appoint a new member representing Director District E.

The individual appointed will complete the first half of Nicholas Holian’s term on the Board, representing Director District E, serving until the successful candidate for the second half of Mr. Holian’s term is elected in November 2015 and has qualified. The individual appointed will have the option of running for a two-year term to serve the second half of Holian’s term in the November 2015 election.
