By Deputy Chris Smith, Public Information Officer
On February 24, 2018 at approximately 8:00 a.m., Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 3500 block of West County Road 54G in Laporte on a report of a highly intoxicated male brandishing a machete and threatening the reporting party with a BB gun, in addition to using the machete to damage property and vehicles. The reporting party also stated the subject wanted to be shot by police. Dispatch received a call from another citizen stating the male had fired the BB gun.
When deputies arrived, the male pointed the BB gun at them. The male refused to follow multiple commands from deputies so a K9 was deployed. The male fought with the K9 and deputies before he was taken into custody. The male was identified as Evan Anthony Jack (07/21/1981) of Laporte. Jack was transported to a local hospital for treatment for the K9 apprehension.
Jack was later booked into the Larimer County Jail on allegations of 2nd degree assault (Class 4 Felony), two counts of Felony Menacing (Class 5 Felony), Felony Criminal Mischief (Class 6 Felony), two counts of Obstructing a Peace Officer (Class 2 Misdemeanor), Prohibited Use of a Weapon (Class 2 Misdemeanor), Resisting Arrest (Class 2 Misdemeanor), and Harassment (Class 3 Misdemeanor).
A booking photo was not available at the time of this release.
The charges are merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until, and unless, proven guilty.
