Obituary: Richard Phillips

Richard Phillips, 86, of Fort Collins died Oct. 5, 2013 at home. Charles Richard Phillips was born July 10, 1927 to Dick and Ruth Phillips in Lingle, Wyo. He graduated from Grover High School in Grover and attended Colorado A & M.

He enlisted in the Navy in 1945 and served until 1948. He married Mary Kathleen Mays in Briggsdale and together they had four children. She died in 1991.

He married Juanita Severns Mays, who died in 2007.

Richard was a machinist and worked for the Great Western Sugar Company and the Colorado Department of Transportation. He retired from CDOT while living in Craig.

Richard loved to garden and spend time outdoors camping and fishing. He also spent time reaching around the world as an amateur radio operator.

Survivors include his children Rodney ( Linda) Phillips of Colorado Springs; Lynn (Lynn) Phillips of Bellvue; Gary (Lisa) Phillips of Kiowa; and Peggy (Pat) Elliott of Omaha, Neb.; a sister Charlene Bailey of Gilcrest; 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and numerous step-children, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National Rifle Association in care of Vessey Funeral Service. A funeral service with military honors was held Oct. 11 at Timberline Church in Fort Collins.
