Soldier and Mill Canyons re-evacuated

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Department has issued 331 evacuation orders for the Soldier Canyon and Mill Canyon areas due to shifting winds around the High Park Fire. This encompasses Lodgepole Drive and County Road 23 west and south including Red Cedar Drive, and east to County Road 23. Residents in these areas were allowed to return home on Saturday but had been on a 2-hour pre-evacuation alert.

Pre-evacuation orders have been issued for the Shoreline Road area south of Lory State Park, from County Rd 38E on the south, Horsetooth Reservoir to the east and Redstone Canyon on the west. The sheriff’s department sent 473 notifications to residents to be ready to leave with a 2 hour-notice.

Glacier View Meadows also remains on pre-evacuation alert, while the Hewlett Gulch area received immediate evacuation orders early Sunday afternoon.

High winds gusting up to 30 to 50 mph in the fire area Sunday grounded the helicopters that had been providing air support for the fire crews. The last report from fire managers places the size of the fire at 55,050 acres — two-thirds on private or state-owned land — with 45 percent containment.

The Larimer County Virtual Courthouse website at www.larimer.org includes links to lots of important information for those touched by the fire, including a list of actions to take before evacuating.
