A love poem: Laugh for me

By Victor Salazar

Laugh for me dear lady, take the sadness from your eyes

Take my hand and let me paint, the way to blue skies

I know your heart’s been broken, but this too will fade

So when you waken at the dawn, laugh and kiss the day

Your whole life lies before you, tho you know not what there lies

So toss your raven hair back and put a smile in your ebony eyes

Think not back to what has happened, but look forth to what might be

Yes, your whole life lies before you, and there are many things to see

Laugh for me dear lady, and stay your tender sighs

Take the sadness from your face, let your laughter touch your eyes

Tho your days may seem unnumbered, like diamonds in the sun

Very quickly do they pass, so pluck them one by one

Take my hand and let’s step forth, for Spring has just begun

Many flowers yet to bloom, many songs yet to be sung

Let us both not dwell upon, what may or may not be

Take my hand and let’s step forth, you be you and I’ll be me

Life can be enchanting, it’s a magic carper ride

Let’s go dancing through the fields, let’s go dancing through the sky

Laugh for me dear lady, let what may ever happen may

Life is just around the corner, and sunshine lights the way

Many memories lie before us, tho they’re not yet to unfold

I know the memory of your smile, is one I’ll dearly hold

So laugh for me my lady, the sound a musical bell

Tho someday you’ll be gone from me, it will be remembered well

Tho someday you’ll be gone from me, you will be remembered well
