Bring your creativity and a sense of whimsy to the Aurora Central Library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 20, and help turn an old school bus into a perfect abode for chickens at Grant Family Farms.
The Aurora Public Library needs youth and adult volunteers to help paint the bus at the library located at 14949 E. Alameda Parkway.
Grant Family Farms, a community supported agriculture co-op in Wellington, uses school buses to house their free-range chickens. The chickens live in the farm’s crop fields and eat pests while fertilizing crops, but use the school buses for shelter. The buses also are used to move the chickens to different parts of the farm on a rotating basis.
Grant Family Farms will be at the painting event to share information about agriculture, chickens and how community supported agriculture works.
Cherry Creek Schools donated the bus, and Sherwin-Williams and Home Depot are providing the paint.
