County Government 101 provides basic information about county roles and business

Do you know the primary responsibilities of a county commissioner? Do you know the five main county departments? Can you name the incorporated municipalities within Weld County? Are you knowledgeable about meeting protocol?

“People are usually familiar with their municipal government, as well as state and federal leaders, but maybe not as much with county government,” Weld County Commissioner William Garcia said. “That’s why the board wanted to create a section for our website that offered a review of basic county government.”

The page, which is located in the “Commissioner” section of the website, contains six educational brochures that can be viewed and printed.

“There have been instances in board meetings, for example, when people have quietly asked staff to explain how board meetings are run,” commission chairman Douglas Rademacher said. “It can be intimidating if you haven’t been to a meeting before or aren’t familiar with meeting protocol. Hopefully, these brochures will help people feel more comfortable participating.”

In addition to being available online, the brochures will also be available in hard copy at the county administration building located at 1150 O St. in Greeley.
