On April 14 at approximately 2:25 p.m., the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office received numerous reports of a man displaying a handgun near a parked vehicle in the area of East County Road 62 and Sixth Street near Bella’s Market in Wellington. One report indicated that the man was possibly firing the weapon at the ground. Another report indicated the man was yelling at a female passenger in the vehicle.
Larimer County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area, but the vehicle was no longer there. A Colorado State Patrol trooper and LCSO lieutenant located the vehicle traveling southbound on Interstate 25. LCSO deputies and the CSP trooper conducted a high-risk traffic stop on the vehicle at mile marker 265 of southbound Interstate 25, one mile north of Harmony Road.
The male passenger in the vehicle was identified as Brian Alan Povich of Denver. Deputies located a replica air pistol in the vehicle matching the description provided by witnesses. It was determined that the female driver of the vehicle was the protected person in a valid restraining order against Povich.
Povich was arrested and booked into the Larimer County Jail on allegations of disorderly conduct/display of weapon, a Class 2 misdemeanor, and violation of a restraining order, also a Class 2 misdemeanor.
