Nearly one in three students in Larimer County schools qualifies for free or reduced lunch. For these children, summer vacation means no school meals and the prospect of going hungry. This summer, the Food Bank for Larimer County’s Kids Cafe will prepare 35,000 nutritious meals for low income kids. To help provide milk at each of these meals, the Food Bank is sponsoring the Summer Milk Challenge. The goal is to raise $20,000 by June 24 with the help of a dollar for dollar match from OtterCares.
To help meet the challenge, the Food Bank will sponsor a fundraising event on June 21 from 6-8 p.m. at Equinox Brewing, 133 Remington Street in Fort Collins. The event will include a free concert (donations to the Food Bank appreciated) with music by local favorite Blue Grama. Attendees will also have a chance to enter into a drawing for prizes donated by local businesses with donated proceeds benefiting the Food Bank.
Community members are asked to donate whatever they can – no donation is too small. Just $25 will provide milk for one child for the entire summer. The Food Bank also will accept online donations at www.foodbanklarimer.org.
