The City of Fort Collins Water Reclamation and Biosolids Division recently received a $1.08 million grant from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to reduce nitrogen and phosphorus in water discharged from the city’s wastewater treatment facility. Fort Collins was one of 21 Colorado municipalities to receive a portion of the $14.7 million in grants.
The additional grant funds will enable the City of Fort Collins Water Reclamation and Biosolids Division to proceed with plant improvements at the Drake Water Reclamation Facility in order to ensure future compliance with state regulations.
Projects to be completed using the grant money include:
· retrofitting the south process train to an A2O biological nutrient removal process.
· optimizing phosphorus removal during the sludge dewatering process
· continuing investigations of local carbon sources to determine an optimal source for further nutrient removal.
