KRFC 88.9 FM and the Fort Collins Downtown Business Association have combined efforts to present the 11th Annual KRFC Birthday Bash on March 29 at the Lincoln Center’s Canyon West Ballroom.
“Over the years, the Birthday Bash has become a major celebrations recognizing years of community support for our on-air music programming that focuses on local talent,” said KRFC Executive Director Brian Hughes. “It serves as recognition that we’ve been the soundtrack of Northern Colorado for more than a decade.”
The station’s “Steel Anniversary” will highlight the Colorado bands Slim Cessna’s Auto Club (SCAC) as well as The Young Ancients. The Bohemian Foundation is serving as music sponsor.
KRFC went on the air March 1, 2003 after years of hard work by dedicated and passionate community members. This team envisioned community radio could be a forum for ideas and music not represented in main-stream media.
“For the last 11 years, hundreds of volunteers and thousands of listener-members have supported that vision,” said Hughes.
Six years ago, KRFC Program Coordinator Scott Foley was one of those volunteers. “This year, I feel our community has more to celebrate than ever before. Over the last 11 years, we’ve taken a journey from a struggling, grassroots radio station to becoming a cornerstone player in the thriving Fort Collins arts and culture scene. What’s not to celebrate?”
Foley noted the annual birthday bash is always one of the area’s top concert events. He anticipates the party will draw people from all of Northern Colorado. In addition to music, participants will enjoy great food and drink, a silent auction and “stellar company.”
“Folks listen to KRFC just about every day of the year to hear great music and unique local programming,” said Foley. “Our annual Birthday Bash gives listeners a chance to hang out with our on-air personalities and visa versa. I always think of KRFC as more than a radio station; It’s a community, and our Bash brings it all together.”
