Larimer County Sheriff Justin Smith will host a School Safety Summit on April 24 at the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office. Representatives from the three school districts in Larimer County and law enforcement officials from Fort Collins, Loveland, Timnath, Berthoud, Windsor, Estes Park and Larimer County will attend.
The purpose of the summit is to discuss current strategies being employed by the three different school districts located in Larimer County, as well as to discuss standards in police and sheriff response plans between the different agencies and the districts.
After an introduction on the current state of school safety in the United States by Sheriff Smith, participants will share best practices, discuss standardizing school safety practices between districts and standardized law enforcement responses. A discussion of building a stronger ongoing dialog between school safety personnel and law enforcement will be followed by looking at future threats. Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Captain John Manago will facilitate the discussions.
