It was gratifying to see the good job done by the North Forty News in its July article about the proposed Barn at Sunny Side in Bellvue. There were eight major issues listed in the article — each of them serious — surrounding this proposal. Larimer County planning staff did a comprehensive job in its Sketch Plan Review summarizing requirements and including letters from multiple agencies and almost 100 residents that listed technical and personal concerns about the project.
Published letters from members of the Bellvue Historic Foundation detailed more reasons why the Barn is not a good idea. These include commercialization of the area that would threaten agriculture, loss of the view across Pleasant Valley from Bingham Hill, and the need to preserve the historic character of the area.
I was also pleased to read that the applicant, Katherine Zybco, is quoted as saying that, “There will be no events center.” She stated that she hopes to find a way to make the property “productive in a way that is compatible with the neighborhood.” These comments represent an attitude of cooperation and caring for the Bellvue community specifically and Pleasant Valley in general.
