One in four of us suffers from mental illness and/or substance abuse. Shocking, isn’t it? Start thinking about all the people you know and you’ll remember someone, a friend or co-worker, someone’s mother or father or child, an aunt or uncle and on and on. Knowing this makes me want to make sure that Larimer County residents have a public facility where they can get help when crisis strikes.
Right now public crisis options are the emergency room, the jail or Greeley’s pubic detox facility. Mental illness and substance-use disorders are treatable health conditions! We need to invest in treatment for the health and well-being of our communities.
A public Detox/Mental Health Facility and Services issue will be on the November ballot. I highly encourage you to vote YES. I am a volunteer with People for a Healthier Larimer County, a volunteer board working on getting this issue passed. The sales tax will be 25 cents on $100 for 25 years and the facility would be conveniently located in Larimer County.
