Marguerite Von King has pipes that belt something of a patient, poetic fury. “Don’t waste your breath baby/you’re dead to me” she howls in “Worse Than Dead,” retaining much of this animosity throughout the debut album by the Fort Collins trio. It is certainly a punk album (and a good one at that) with bursts of chaotic explosions on Eric Pierce’s drums and hard, driving bass lines from Brian Miller. Many of the tracks, however, are interspersed with bouts of melodic psychedelia, bringing about a misleading air of tranquility before the surge of manic outburst. The influence of Queens of the Stone Age or Rage Against the Machine is evident under Von King’s uniquely attractive, beautifully low-fi vocals. Be on the watch for some live punk by Little Vicious in the city, including a May 20 show at Swing Station and May 27 at Artery with White Cat Pink.
