New Horizons Band of Northern Colorado, a volunteer organization providing musical opportunities for anyone over 50, welcomes new members from beginners to experienced musicians and those who have not played an instrument for many years.
The organization is one of more than 200 bands of New Horizons International Music Association, founded in 1997. The organization “creates an entry point to group music-making for adult beginners and a comfortable re-entry for adults who played music at school and would like to resume after long years building careers.” NHB of Northern Colorado draws members from Fort Collins, Loveland, Longmont, Wellington, Windsor, Greeley and Berthoud.
For beginners the “green” band provides focused instruction. The “red” band is for those who need to brush up on their instrument and practice rhythms and sight reading. The concert or “blue” band is for musicians who wish to play in concert venues.
A Dixieland ensemble band is open to all. Swing and Woodwind ensemble bands are by director invitation only.
The fall season will kick off with a picnic at the home of band director Glenn Shull. Fall season rehearsals begin on September 2.
Rehearsals are scheduled on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at Mountain Range Shadows Club House, 8401 Mummy Range Drive, north of Loveland-Fort Collins Airport on I-25, 25 W. Frontage Rd. between exits 259 and 262.
