Thanks to a $7,575 grant awarded by Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, Poudre Fire Authority will have new, state-of-the-art communications equipment. Specifically, firefighters will receive handheld radios, enabling firefighters to reliably communicate with each other and with other fire service organizations responding to large fires.
Poudre Fire Authority officials, firefighters, employees from Fireman’s Fund and executives from Brown and Brown of Colorado will come together for a special public event Nov. 26 at 10 a.m. at PFA Fire Station 1, 505 Peterson St. in Fort Collins. The grant package will be presented and firefighters will demonstrate how these radios are used at the scene of an emergency.
The grant is part of a nationwide philanthropic program funded by Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company. The program is designed to provide needed equipment, training and educational tools to local fire departments and burn prevention organizations. Since 2004, Fireman’s Fund has awarded grants to nearly 1,900 different fire service organizations totaling more than $29 million – including more than $400,000 in Colorado. Grants are awarded through company employees and independent insurance agencies and brokers that offer Fireman’s Fund products.
“I am proud to work for a company that enables me to support firefighters. I nominated the Poudre Fire Authority for the grant because I have family in the area and was moved by the devastation caused by the High Park Fire – and wanted to pay tribute to these dedicated firefighters,” says Jeanne Mardis, Marketing Manager of Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company.
“We take pride in serving the community, and it’s critical that we have the proper communications equipment to do our jobs safely and efficiently,” said Fire Chief Tom Demint. “Thanks to this donation, local residents and firefighters will be better protected.”
