Having twice been evacuated by raging wildfires, nationally recognized painter Lori Forest is donating 100 percent of the profits from the sale of her “In the Dead of the Night” limited edition prints to the American Red Cross, The Rist Canyon Volunteer Fire Department and Redstone Canyon’s Station 11.

While this painting was made as a result of the 2011 Crystal Fire in Buckhorn and Redstone Canyons of Colorado, it could just as easily been made during the High Park Fire of June 2012. “It was like waking to a nightmare,” says Lori. “All we could see was choking smoke and a surreal, orange glow flickering through the windows. And then we could see the ridgeline ablaze with flames, hundreds of feet high. We woke the children, grabbed photos off the wall, turned our six horses loose, and left our home, wondering what we would come back to. Some of us came back to homes, some of us searched through the ruins. There are really no words to describe it, and perhaps that is why I had to paint the experience.”
