Red Feather Lakes Community Library update for Sept. 2014

This month, a thanks to those who have made donations to the library, upcoming great September library programming and a few brief points regarding the mill levy initiative ballot that you, as a library district resident or property owner will receive in October.

A special thanks to those who have made donations to the library or to the Friends of the Library. Your generous contributions are directly reflected in the quality of library services, programming and the materials that you, as a user, can borrow free of charge.

We’d like to especially highlight the contributions of the Art Extravaganza Committee that, through the Friends of the Library, resulted in the Art Extravaganza Fine Art auction held Aug. 28 at The Forks. Through their – and others’ efforts – we are better able to assist you.

We have some great programming just ahead. On Sept. 20, intellectual property law attorney JoAnne Hagen will present a copyright workshop for authors, inventors, musicians and anyone else interested in U.S. copyright law. Following JoAnne’s 1-3 p.m. presentation, her spouse Ken Ogan will present an armchair tour of the new astrological observatories in Chile – a fascinating tour of not only the precise new equipment used to observe the skies but also of the new findings. Contact Jeanette to reserve a seat for this program.

Retired University of Michigan full professor (and now full-time Fort Collins resident) John Paul McKinney has authored or co-authored many college-level psychology textbooks. However, he’ll be at the library at 11 a.m. Sept. 13 to discuss his first work of fiction, “Charlie’s Angle” involving Wisconsin high school students, their families and teachers and the injunction that “we are men of character first.” This is “don’t miss” reading. Borrowing copies are available in-library as well as copies for sale through Friends sales. A book signing follows the presentation.

Also on Sept. 13, the library and the Red Feather Historical Society are partnering to present “The Archaeology of the Livermore Area” with Colorado State University Jason LaBelle, discussing new findings at the Roberts Buffalo Jump from 1 to 3 p.m.. Everyone welcome.

Finally, you’re probably aware that your library is proposing a mill levy initiative this fall. As a library district resident or property owner you’ll be receiving both a Blue Book through the League of Women Voters as well as the ballot itself in the mail. This will be a separate ballot, unrelated to the general county ballot. Registered Colorado voters are eligible to vote. If you’re not currently registered, we at the library will be able to assist with that process later this fall. Pro or con, please vote.
