From Friends of the Library President Sandy Lagow: The Friends Board of RFLC Library is still looking for two new board members. This is a great opportunity to support the library and become a community member of our organization. Please call with any questions. There are five meetings and e-mail correspondence involved with serving.

We are so excited about “Game of Skill,” a beautiful quilt being donated to the library by the Mountain Meadows Quilters. Come and see us at the Livermore Community Hall on May 2 or 3. The quilt is breathtaking!

Mark your calendars for the annual Friends of Western Ridge dinner on Thursday, June 18. Great food and entertainment…such a deal.

Our first of three book sales will be over Memorial Day weekend. Please come support us.

Otherwise, we have some great programming ahead. We’re planning on continuing our weekly series of computer help/skill/personal assistance programs on Fridays in the coming month. Topics to be announced, but definitely will incorporate a computer/Internet safety class, increasingly pertinent with daily headlines about Superfish and permanently malware-infected hard drives. This is a beginner’s class, for those who are unfamiliar with or new to computers or otherwise browse the Internet casually. We’ll provide an hour’s worth of practical, hands-on tools and methods you can use to protect yourself, your data and your machine.

In future sessions, we’ll discuss data encryption, safe password creation and password managers for those individuals who currently have just a bit more experience with personal computers.

Have a new mobile device or would like to use your current device for listening to downloadable audiobooks or eBooks? We can assist you or offer “how-to” demonstrations with library machines. It works best if you are comfortable in using your tablet or smart phone and have an account established with your device.

The procedure is relatively straightforward, but does take several steps: Download the free OverDrive, OneClickDigital and/or 3M Cloud Library app from your app store; install it; set up an account with your RFL Library card; and then browse and download titles to listen to or read. If you’re a do-it-yourselfer, you can start with the links on our home page at redfeatherlibrary.org.

Also, there’s been changes in our children’s programs. On Tuesdays, we now offer a couple of half-hour classes for the younger set. Time for Tots (ages 1 to 2 years old) from 3 to 3:30 p.m. offers stories, games, yoga and other activities. Little Tykes (children up to a year old as well as parents) is held from 3:45 to 4:15 p.m. The elementary grade-level Ready, Set, Go program is now held on Wednesdays from 3 to 4 p.m. Children and parents are welcome to attend.
