Rist Canyon VFD morning flooding update

Update from Rist Canyon Volunteer Fire Department:

Rist Canyon Road – both directions – is closed between Davis Ranch and Bellvue as of 8:32 a.m. We are working hard to get one lane open but there has been significant undercuting of the pavement. We hope to have one lane of Rist Canyon open by 9ish.

Stove Prairie Road north of the school is closed due to debris and undercutting of the pavement. That is a lower priority than Rist Canyon because Poudre Cayon is closed.

Buckhorn Canyon from Stove Prairie Road is open at this time, but the water is at the road level. If you travel that road be very careful. It is possible that the road has been undercut.

Rist canyon road is closed (or was) at Watson lake.

CR23 south of Bellvue is closed.

I beleive once we get Rist open – we should have an exit from the canyon through Bellvue, but I’m not sure what it will be.

As an indication of the dynamic nature – as I typed this we got info the R&B will have Rist open (one lane) momentarily.

More general information:
These closures/openings change dynamically. RCVFD and County Road and Bridge were out most of the night, we cleared the road and opened it, then it would flood and close, over and over again. So we are dealing with changing situations.

If you are traveling (and I advise not), watch for debris. Also watch for undercuting of pavement which can be very difficult to drop.

DO NOT drive through water. It can look safe, but you could be driving into a hole.
